Nebraska EPSCoR Director Fred Choobineh

  • Dr. Choobineh is a professor of Electrical Engineering and Blackman Distinguished Professor of Engineering at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln (UNL), where he also holds a courtesy appointment as a professor of Management. His research interests are in electric power systems with emphasis on smart grid and transmission planning, and manufacturing system engineering. He has served as the principal or co-principal investigator for more than $57 million in grants from the National Science Foundation and industry. He has received the Nebraska Legislator Award for Distinguished Teaching in the College of Engineering and is a four-time recipient of the Nebraska Parents Association and Teaching Council Recognition Award for Contributions to Students. Dr. Choobineh earned his B.S. in Electrical Engineering, Masters of Engineering and Ph.D. in Industrial Engineering from Iowa State University, Ames, Iowa. He is a Fellow of the Institute of Industrial Engineers and a member of IEEE. He is a registered Professional Engineer in Nebraska and has served on the state's Board of Engineers and Architects.
Nebraska EPSCoR Accounting Technician Fred Gartner

  • Mr. Gartner joined Nebraska EPSCoR in 2010 following a nearly 10 year career in the Budget and Fiscal Division of the Nebraska Game and Parks Commission. His resume also includes extensive budgetary and accounting experience working in the banking, financial services and insurance fields. Mr. Gartner received his Associates of Business Administration degree in 1980 while employed in the banking industry. The opportunity to contribute to enhancing the strength of Nebraska's research and innovation growth through the efforts of Nebraska EPSCoR is an exciting challenge for Mr. Gartner.

Nebraska EPSCoR Outreach Coordinator Lindsey Moore

  • Ms. Moore earned her bachelor's degree in Secondary Education with a Natural Science Endorsement from the University of Nebraska Omaha. She then began her career teaching high school science in Omaha. While teaching, she earned her master's degree in Secondary Education, along with a graduate certificate of Instruction in Urban Schools. She spent much of her graduate time and research on how to better apply science and STEM instruction into urban schools. She looks forward to bringing her education background to Nebraska EPSCoR while continuing to fuel her passion for STEM research and education.
Nebraska EPSCoR Executive Assistant Nancy Simnitt

  • Ms. Simnitt began her career at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln (UNL) as Secretary to the Director of the School of Biological Sciences. She then took advantage of an opportunity to work for a private tuition payment company in Lincoln. In 2001, Nebraska EPSCoR needed additional staff to support the increased funding and programs that had been added over the past few years. Ms. Simnitt joined Nebraska EPSCoR to support this success and return to the research/academic setting. Ms. Simnitt received her Associates of Applied Science degree in Administrative Secretarial from Southeast Community College-Lincoln.

Nebraska EPSCoR Communications Specialist Carole Wilbeck

  • Ms. Wilbeck earned her bachelor's degree from Syracuse University, with dual majors in Magazine Journalism and Policy Studies. She also completed a certificate program in Nonprofit Management while working at the University of Washington. Her experience includes communications work with a K-12 school, a trade association and the University of Nebraska-Lincoln College of Engineering. She enjoys sharing stories of how Nebraska EPSCoR research collaborations serve the world (starting with the state of Nebraska), and helping advance STEM resources.
