Registration opens for NSF EPSCoR national conference in Nebraska

March 1, 2024

Registration is open for the U.S. National Science Foundation (NSF) EPSCoR National Conference: Oct. 13-16, 2024 at the downtown Hilton Omaha.  EPSCoR* stands for Established Program to Stimulate Competitive Research, an NSF program advancing geographic diversity in science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM).

The biennial conference gathers 400+ scientists, students, teachers and administrators who focus on STEM research, teaching and outreach. This is the first time the conference will be held in Nebraska since EPSCoR began in the 1980s. This event’s theme is “Connect and Collaborate to Keep Science Flowing,” and includes a focus on water concerns underlying many aspects of science and societal issues.

Information on registration and discounted event lodging can be found at the conference website, https://epscor.nebraska.edu/nsfepscorconf. The registration fee includes breakfast and lunch for the entire conference and costs $100 for students, and $200 for others when registering before July 1; starting July 1, all registration prices increase to $300 (July 1 – September 1).

The program includes an arrival reception on Sunday, Oct. 13 with speaker Cole Sartore of the Nebraska-based Photo Ark, documenting many of the world’s endangered animals.  Monday and Tuesday, Oct. 14 and 15, offer morning plenary sessions, student researcher poster sessions, afternoon “breakout” sessions, and an optional Tuesday afternoon trip to the acclaimed Henry Doorly Zoo. Wednesday morning will include presentations from NSF’s leadership, with new funding programs among those topics.

The 28th NSF EPSCoR Conference is supported by the National Science Foundation, Award # 2336404.

*The U.S. has more than 20 EPSCoR-eligible areas, called jurisdictions, including 26 states plus the territories of Guam, Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands – listed at https://new.nsf.gov/funding/initiatives/epscor/epscor-criteria-eligibility. NSF EPSCoR eligibility is based on a jurisdiction's most recent five-year history of total funds awarded by NSF relative to the Foundation's total research budget for that same period.
